I made too liberal use of the bus lane to get away from traffic in order to make a right turn, cop saw me, gave me a nasty look and waved me off. That’s the exact place where it happened.

I had a cop in the city the other day say he saw me texting. I looked at my phone because my wife texted me and it lit up and I looked to see who sent it. I wasn’t going to engage in a conversation, I don’t know how he saw so much but I wasn’t typing or anything, it dinged and I glanced at it. So I don’t think I can get out of it. I was slowly rolling up to a red light when I did it too, and he got out and tapped on my window. He said it didn’t matter and I was using my phone. It’s like reading what song is playing on the radio or changing the station, I wasn’t typing at all.

That doesn’t seem right....I thought the phone had to be in your hand to get a ticket. Where I live they can ticket you for holding it, even if you’r not looking at it, but they can’t for glancing down. That would be like ticketing someone for glancing at literally anything at a stoplight, which is total BS

I was technically moving slowly towards the red because why speed up to stop. I think in CA it’s “hands free” or whatever. I doubt any argument will help. The city is having a hardcore push for distracted driving tickets.
